WASA Shifts to Solar Energy

WASA office's transition to solar energy is a significant step to underscore the importance of green energy around the country.

Pakistan’s Water Supply and Sewerage Authority, WASA, is about to switch to solar energy. Two solar plants will be required to cover the energy requirements.

Owing to expensive energy and increased electricity bills, WASA, the Water and Sanitation Agency, is switching to solar energy. The WASA’s building as well as the water filtration plant on Rawal Dam is planned to shift to solar energy. The decision is made by Punjab Planning and Development Department.

Punjab Planning and Development Department authorities, in a meeting, pronounced the installation of two solar energy plants; one for the WASA building, and the other for the Rawal Dam filtration plant.

WASA’s filtration plant requires 245 KVs of power, whereas the building requires 45KVs of power.

The whole project would cost Rs 150 million under Saving Energy Programme as per confidential sources. Such a shift would save WASA from paying exorbitant electricity bills to WAPDA.

Sources revealed that the solar plant installation of WASA’s project will be managed by the Punjab Energy Department.

This could be a great step at the government level to facilitate and promote solar energy across the country. Amid energy and economic crisis, Pakistan is making efforts to shift to green energy. With all the government sector offices being solarized, the country is paving its way to minimize dependence on highly expensive fossil fuel.
