ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mian Shehbaz Sharif, announced the conversion of 100,000 agriculture tube wells across Pakistan.

In the second week of August 2023, Pakistan’s Prime Minister launched a  Rs. 377bn Revolutionary Project to solarize tube wells across the country. He underscored the importance of the green shift and how it is inevitable for the success of Pakistan.

While addressing the project launching ceremony, the PM said, “This is a revolutionary step as without it, no one can think of Pakistan making progress… I want to give a message that no other project can match the significance of solar energy.”

While expressing his vision, he highlighted that the solar transition would bring economic prosperity to Pakistan. While stressing the importance of low-cost energy, the PM also mentioned that affordable and uninterrupted energy supply is the need of all sectors of the economy, be it agriculture or any other industry.

He told the delegation that the federal government, the local government, and the farmer would each bear one-third of the total cost of solarizing tube wells. The government will cover 67% of Islamabad, and the farmer will pay the rest.

The project launching ceremony marked the distribution of solar tube well certificates to Islamabad-based farmers. The sources claim that the 100,000 tube wells solarization will take up to three years to complete.
