Pakistan's First-Ever Solar-Powered Night School

The fight against illiteracy is a big challenge, especially for kids in slums. Pakistani humanitarian Rohayl Varind’s initiative of Learning Under the Moon SLUM School has been a light of hope for more than 100 children who could not afford quality education.

The Slum School in Faisalabad is educating kids residing in slums to make them independent and empower them with the power of digital literacy. The energy required for lights and fans is generated by solar power.

The Slum School is Pakistan’s first-ever solar-powered night school that provides free education to highly motivated children who work as labourers during the day and seek education at night. 

Sadly, over 22 million children in Pakistan do not go to school due to poverty, no access to educational resources or rural locality. Such kids end up in child labour to support their families.

The chain of calamity was broken by an award-winning entrepreneur, social activist, and educationist working hard for educational rights. 

Slum School has been internationally recognised and has been educating out-of-school children since 2016. The school comprises well-educated staff who work dedicatedly to deliver their best possible efforts. 

Apart from academic education, students are taught ethics and manners, helping them to indulge in society. Moreover, primary IT education is also provided, including hardware, graphics, and word processing software. The school is facilitated with solar fans and lights, whiteboards, and sitting rugs. All the students there get free school bags, books, food, clothes, and stationery. The school starts at 7 pm when all the kids become free from work and chores.
