Earlier in 2023, Oracle Power and Power China proposed a 1 Giga Watts PV project installation at the unutilized land of Thar, Pakistan. This collaboration will open new opportunities in Pakistan making the country energy independent.
The Thar power project facilitated by UK coal and gold mining projects developer Oracle Power PLC and Power Construction Corporation of China, known as Power China, is expected to generate 1GW of solar energy for Pakistan.
With the ongoing Thar Coal Power Project, there was a need to fix the carbon footprints at coalfields in Sindh. And solar power projects will not only minimize carbonization but also promote the generation of clean and sustainable energy.
Thar is Pakistan’s southeastern desert. The installment of the solar power project is planned at an unutilized site of the desert located at Oracle's Thar Block VI in the Sindh province. Oracle and the Government authorities have already taken care of the permission and legal processes.
In accordance with the partnership contract, Oracle will engage with the Chinese partner to determine the project's viability and coordinate efforts with the Chinese government. Oracle will then strive to secure project finance and manage negotiations with the Sindh and Pakistani governments.
Oracle’s CEO Naheed Memon stated, “We look forward to working closely with our partners to swiftly establish ourselves as front runners in producing renewable power and green energy solutions in Pakistan and the broader region.”
Furthermore, Oracle is already working on a 1.2GW solar, wind, and green hydrogen project in Sindh.
According to official sources, the solar project will be equipped with 1.5 PV panels. Each solar panel will generate power at 655 watts, making 1.7 billion kWh per annum.
the 1 GW Solar Project in Thar would supply power to the national grid or private distributors to help Pakistan combat the energy crisis.
