Unilever Pakistan once again showed its commitment towards sustainability by joining hands with K-Solar in embracing green energy for its regional operations.
Unilever Pakistan, a renowned consumer goods company, announced its initiative to go green by transitioning its operations to solar energy at Karachi and Rahim Yar Khan.
The partnership between Unilever and K-Solar aims for net zero CO2 emission in all its operations by 2039.
Transformation to solar energy would reduce massive strain on the national grid system by generating approximately 2.3 million kWh of renewable energy resources. It would stabilize Pakistan’s economy and take off PKR 84 million a year in energy costs, facilitating the local economy as well.
Unilever has research labs, data centers, offices, distribution centers, and warehouses. All these collectively account for 2% of their total GHG footprint. However, it is committed to eliminating carbon emissions to 0%.
Here is the scheme of Unilever Pakistan’s Solar Captive Power Plant Phase 2:
A solar energy system of 362 kW will be installed at Futehally Chemicals Limited Karachi, which manufactures Surf Excel for Unilever. The solar energy system at the factory will annually save 496,035 kWh and 18 million PKR. Moreover, it will reduce the CO2 emission by 233 metric tons.
At Rahim Yar Khan Factory, a 1000kW capacity solar plant will be installed to shed 430,886 kWh from the national grid and save 53 million PKR annually. Also, it guarantees 662 metric tons of CO2 reduction.
The 250kW capacity solar project at Rahim Yar Khan Estate will save 357,721 kWh of energy annually and 13 million PKR, reducing 165 metric tons of CO2 emission.
Project Site | Solar Panel Capacity | Annual Energy Saving | Annual Economy Saving | Annual CO2 Reduction |
Futehally Chemicals Limited Karachi | 362 kW | 496,035 kWh | 18 million PKR | 233 metric tons |
Rahim Yar Khan Factory | 1000 kW | 430,886 kWh | 53 million PKR | 662 metric tons |
Rahim Yar Khan Estate | 250 kW | 357,721 kWh | 13 million PKR | 165 metric tons |
