K-Electric raises renewable power goals as NEPRA wraps up hearings on 150 MW solar project bid examination for Winder and Bela in Balochistan
Karachi–K-Electric (KE) has achieved a major achievement in its renewable energy plans by presenting the Bid Evaluation Report for 150MW solar power projects in Winder and Bela, Balochistan in the NEPRA. The hearing on this matter is complete to go by the regulator, which is a big relief to conclude these projects which KE has taken towards changing the energy structure in Pakistan.
After getting approval from the NEPRA earlier this year, KE has started the first competitive bidding process for renewable energy in the industry. The 150 MW Winder and Bela solar projects are part of the first rollout of what KE intends to incorporate 1300 MW sustainable energy in its generation mix, which is one attempt towards its goal of attaining 30% RE by 2030.
KE renewable schemes have received considerable investor interest in the last one year, with 15 responses from bidders for Winder and Bela projects and further seven responses for 80 MW solar and wind hybrid power projects at Dhabeji, Sindh. These projects have created new standards in the experimental market related to the renewable energy segment, resulting in extremely suitable tariff rates. The company has also completed the evaluation of the auction for KE’s 270 MW Sind Solar Projects that help in diversified generation mix and decrease dependence on imported fuels.
In terms of the above achievements, Shahab Qader, Chief Strategy Officer of KE, remarked that the Bid Evaluation Report hearing was a critical process and brings the company closer to dealing with the energy difficulty and reducing its carbon footprint. We strive to build a sustainable energy future for Karachi as well as gratefully acknowledge the engagement of all stakeholders in driving investments and energy transition.
KE continues to seek decisions from NEPRA that would adhere to its goals of delivering low cost, reliable, and sustainable power to its consumers. These renewable projects point also to KE’s commitment towards a cleaner and more sustainable power system.
