Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park Produces 75% of the Cumulative Energy Supply

Pakistan’s first-ever solar power project, Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park, contributes 400MW (75%) of electricity to the cumulative production capacity of 530 MW.

In August 2016, Pakistan took the initiative to install the country’s first solar power plant in Bahawalpur, named in honour of the founder of Pakistan, Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

The Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park has an installed capacity of 1000 MegaWatts (400 / 600 MW).

The overall project was operated and managed by CPEC with the contribution of the Chinese executive company Zonergy.

According to CPEC, the project's estimated cost is 520/781 million US dollars. Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park was financed by Independent Power Producer (IPP).

The coordinating ministry is the Ministry of Energy (Power Division), whereas the Punjab Power Development Board (PPDB) / Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) acts as the supervising agency.

As per sources, the 600 MW solar project is in process and will soon be implemented.

Although the Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park has faced difficulties in the development phase, such as installation hurdles and conflicts with NEPRA, it is now Pakistan's leading and largest solar power project.

The country is on an ongoing journey of promoting and implementing solar power at residential and commercial properties. Due to excessive load shedding, people in Pakistan opt for green energy that could serve them in the long run.

The Chinese contribution to making Pakistan an independent country in terms of power generation is highly marked in the industry. Several Chinese solar power products and integration companies are operational in Pakistan, providing the best PV solutions to consumers.
