Karachi: IMC is manufacturing a Corolla cross hybrid car that will consume 50% less fuel than other vehicles.
Indus Motor Company, the Toyota Car Assemblers in Pakistan, has announced manufacturing the Corolla cross hybrid to facilitate consumers with high mileage and less fuel consumption. The car is expected to be launched in late December 2023 or early January 2024.
Recently, CEO of Indus Motor Company Ali Asghar Jamali highlighted in a press briefing that the Corolla cross hybrid car will consume 50% less fuel than its petrol or diesel counterparts. As per sources, the Corolla hybrid will control the vehicle import expenses and contribute to annual savings of approximately $37 million from 30,000 hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) units.
While underscoring the need for hybrid cars in Pakistan, Jamali stated that;
“This move towards HEVs is a sustainable solution to Pakistan’s economic challenges, addressing macroeconomic objectives, bolstering employment, increasing exports, and trimming imports.”

Indus Motor Company has invested $100 million to launch Hybrid Electric Vehicles in Pakistan. And the Corolla cross they’re planning to introduce would be Pakistan’s first locally assembled HEV SUV.
Jamali also stated that;
“Pakistan is acutely affected by climate change, necessitating comprehensive measures across all sectors.”
Indeed, climate change has affected many countries, including Pakistan. However, due to the ongoing financial crisis, it would be challenging for IMC to sell. Indus Motor Company has already encountered a 58% decline in volumetric sales from January 2023 to June 2023. The economic crisis suppresses the consumer buying power and demand for vehicles in the automotive industry.
Fuel prices in Pakistan have experienced a significant increase, causing considerable hardship for the general population. This continuous rise in petroleum product costs has made it increasingly challenging for individuals to maintain their usual way of life, particularly in their daily commutes.
Moreover, the increased import of used cars in Pakistan has restrained the local auto industry.
Ali Asghar Jamali emphasized that the government should encourage local manufacturing of cars, curtailing car imports.
Carbon or GHG emission is a serious global threat. Pakistan’s energy mix depends on 62% of fossil fuels that pose a great environmental hazard. The HEV SUV will help consumers save money on fuel and promise to reduce carbon footprints.

Electric vehicles are the future of transportation. Recalling the world’s transition towards clean energy and zero carbon footprint, EVs would play a vital role in achieving the net zero goal for Pakistan and all countries across the globe.
With a dependable grid power supply, the vehicle charger application for power battery charging is part of the slow charging program, which supports the public facility's AC charging pile.
