This switch is to be achieved through a budget of PKR 9 billion, which means that farmers will be relieved of the burden and the energy grid as well.
The goal of the project is to decrease the operating costs of farmers and actively encourage renewable energy usage. Farmers at any group level are eligible to apply for Solar Conversion of pre- October 30, 2024 installed tube wells. Prospective applicants are allowed to apply up to December 31, 2024, and only farmers approved by the land registry are allowed to apply.
More support to farmers, the Punjab government will offer allowances in three different types:
PKR 500,000 for 10 kW systems
PKR 750,000 for 15 kW systems
PKR 1,000,000 for 20 kW systems
For the rest of the conversion cost any farmer that wants to start using the machinery will be expected to pay the remaining amount. This subsidy programme, as well as effectively reducing costs, will also guarantee that farmers save a significant amount of fuel and electricity into the long term.
