Pakistan’s Railway Stations to be Powered With Solar Energy

Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mian Shehbaz Sharif, announced the installation of solar panels at railway stations and offices of divisions across Pakistan.

According to sources, a comprehensive strategy has been prepared to solarize Pakistan’s Railway Stations. Solar panels of international standards will be installed to save electricity costs. The surplus power generated by solar panels will be transferred to WAPDA’s primary grid.

The solar project has a total budget of Rs 40 million collectively.

For the project's first phase, Pakistan Railways has selected the following zones.

After the completion of phase 1, other railway stations will be considered to switch to solar energy.

Considering the demand for electricity and high tariffs, switching to alternative energy is an informed choice.

Indeed, PR reforms towards renewable energy would reduce the load from the national grid and help overcome the overall energy crisis.

The world is on a mission to achieve zero carbon footprint, and Pakistan Railway's solar transition is an integral step towards the net zero consensus.
