Wapda & UAE Group Join Hands to Overcome Energy Crisis in Pakistan

Makhtoum's Pvt Office of the United Arab Emirates offered a substantial investment package for solar and hydropower production in Pakistan.

The Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) and the private office of Sheikh Ahmed Dalmook Al Maktoum inked two significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) to start strategic projects in Pakistan’s energy sector.

The 1st MoU’s agenda is to install a 1000 MW floating solar power project on existing water reservoirs. In contrast, the 2nd MoU focuses on rehabilitating, upgrading, and boosting the capacity of Rasul, Chichokimalian, Renala, and Nandipur hydropower projects.

The mutual interest of both countries is generating renewable energy for a sustainable future.

The MoU established a cooperation framework between WAPDA and private offices to facilitate cooperation and explore investment opportunities, especially in WAPDA's small hydropower projects.

The chairman of Wapda, Lt. Gen. Sajjad Ghani, and Sheikh Ahmed Dalmook Al Maktoum joined hands in long-term energy production in Pakistan. Under the signed accords, a technical and financial feasibility assessment will be designed, and an implementation plan will be deployed.

Pakistan is progressing in terms of solar energy production due to internal efforts as well as international investments. Considering the power shortage and high tariffs, the Government of Pakistan is making reforms in the energy sector and striving to make green and reusable electricity through solar and hydropower.
