37 Hospitals in Sindh Pakistan Embraced Solar Energy

The Sindh energy minister, Imtiaz Sheikh, announced successful solarization of 37 hospitals and 233 basic health units. Government buildings, prisons and offices are also being converted to solar energy.

In a recent Clean Solar Energy Conference, Sindh Energy Minister Imtiaz Sheikh announced that the Sindh Government is taking measures to combat the energy crisis through generating clean power from renewable resources.

According to the Sindh Energy Minister, Pakistan’s economy can be stabilized by resolving the energy crisis that can be done by replacing fossil energy with solar power. He mentioned that the Sindh government is working proficiently to overcome the shortage of energy supply.

Imtiaz Sheikh also highlighted that in Sindh, 233 basic health units and 37 major provincial hospitals have already converted to solar energy. He also claimed that 40 government buildings including Sindh Assembly and Central Prison Karachi, are being solarized.

Moreover, the energy minister in his speech stated that solarizing Civil Hospital Karachi would reduce 1,851 tonnes of CO2 per annum.

In addition, he stated that;

“Sindh is the first province to implement a hybrid policy and has signed business-to-business Memoranda of Understanding for electricity generation. Sindh is leading in solarization efforts, with 200,000 units already solarized.”

Highlighting the accomplishment of the Sindh energy sector, the minister underscored that a 400MW B2B agreement has been signed with Engro whereas another solar based project deal is ongoing with another private company.

The Sindh government has been proactively taking measures to rectify the energy crisis and collaboration with K-Electric on solar projects is one of the big achievements in cutting down electricity costs and reducing load shedding across the province. 

Pakistan has a great potential for producing clean energy from reusable resources. The country is stepping towards clean and green energy by encouraging electricity production via solar systems. Although, Pakistan’s share in overall carbon emission is very low, still the contribution towards green energy is highly recognized as a commitment to a sustainable future.

The federal government of Pakistan has already exempted custom duties on the import of raw material used in solar power products. The country is encouraging the manufacturing of solar energy products and welcoming local and foreign investors in the renewable energy sector.
