SWABI: The well-reputed university in Swabi, Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology, will soon be solarized with a 1MW solar power project.
Solar energy company Sky Electric Limited and GIKI signed an agreement to install solar panels at GIKI camps.
Pro-Rector, GIKI Sardar Aminullah Khan, and Director Sky Electric Aamir Ali signed the agreement.
Regarding the financing of the project, the National Bank of Pakistan and the Society for the Promotion of Engineering Sciences and Technology are funding the whole manoeuvre.
SOPREST is the parent body of Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology.
The contract signing ceremony was attended by Osman Saifullah Khan, Member Board of Governors, GIKI, Shakil Durrani, Executive Director, SOPREST, and Salim Saifullah Khan, President of SOPREST. Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid joined the ceremony as Rector, GIKI, and the representatives of Sky Electric.

Osman Saifullah Khan underscored the importance of the collaboration while advising GIKI to join forces with Sky Electric in electrical engineering and related fields. He also highlighted the significance of alternative energy and how it has a considerable impact on stabilising Pakistan's economy.
GIKI has already installed a one-megawatt power plant at its campus, through which the university is saving Rs 50 million annually. The second power plant installation at GIKI shows the institute's commitment to a green and sustainable future.
